The Opunake Sports and Recreation Trust is on the hunt for a Sports Coordinator to support, revitalise, enhance, implement, and activate the management of new and existing Sports Clubs in the Ōpunakē region. This role will be set up by the Ōpunakē Sport and Recreation Trust, however, the community is developing a new entity to support the delivery of Sport and Recreation in Ōpunakē, and it is hoped that the Sports Co-ordinator will report to the new entity at a later stage.

You will be provided with a laptop, mobile phone and office. The hours of work are flexible and some ability to work evenings and weekends will be required.

 

Responsibilities include:

- Maintain and enhance relationships with all sports clubs, kura, and schools in the Opunake area.

- Applying for and supporting funding applications from community sports organisations.

- Liaising with local kura and schools to promote community sports and events.

- Working with sports clubs to grow participation.

- Managing and supporting recruitment of volunteers (including event volunteers, coaches, and umpires).

- Assisting with ongoing training for parents, coaches and volunteers.

- Positively promote each sports club.•Assist with health and safety requirements for each sports club.

- Coordinate and hold meetings with sports clubs, kura and school.

- Prepare and present monthly reports to the Opunake Sports and Recreation Trust

- Liaise with Sport Taranaki regularly to optimise opportunities for the community.

- Assist Sport clubs with draws, timetables and booking of venues.

 

Desirable competencies: 

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to be able to lead, manage and enhance community club sports would be an advantage.

- An understanding of Microsoft Office suite and computer skills.

- Knowledge of sports organisations in the Ōpunakē Community would be advantageous but not essential.
